If I am God’s adopted child through my belief in Christ and you are God’s adopted child through your belief in Christ, what kind of relationship do you and I have with each other? Perhaps it is because theologians have focused too much on WHO has been chosen by God to be called into His family. This particular passage in Ephesians has been misunderstood by many throughout the centuries. When we enter a relationship with God, how are we like adopted children?Ĭompare our entry into God’s family to the adaption process. 3-6 that suggests the Church is like a family? Paul gives us several reasons why we should not give up on the church. No matter how the Church might have let you down, at the core, the Church is still a good idea. You believe in Jesus but you could do without the church. Your experience with either a family unit or a church group hasn’t been the greatest. So, let’s consider this question: What is the makeup of a happy, secure family? Paul uses the image of a family with adopted children to describe the institution of the church.he world has many definitions of what constitutes a family.
